Our Hearts and Prayers go out to Families and Friends @ VA Tech.

Not sure what to say here, except that yesterday was one of those horrible days in U.S. history. Certainly our Hearts and Prayers go out to all of those that are forever changed by this event. I am not sure how or why this could possibly happen, but I do know that whoever has been touched by this, will never forget what happened.
Obviously I am not even close to understanding how it must feel, but I do know that there is a certain level of hurt that everyone around the nation, and if not the world, has felt within the last 2 days.

To everyone that may read this blog, just know that life is so very precious and please do not take today for granted, tell your family how much you love and appreciate them, and never let another day go by without.

Thanks for reading.

What about this domain name .......

For quite some time now people have been asking, "Hey, what do you think of this domain name"?
Whether it is for a business or a personal site, or even if it is for an investment, people are always asking the same question. Well, what does your domain name say about you?

Basically, your domain name should explain your company, or your personality I guess. I dont think you would want to own a car dealership and have a goofy name with a .org extension (goofyname.org) that would not be the way to proceed. What you might want is something with your name in it. If it was me, I might want Adamscleancars.com, or you might want your company name in the domain.
Whatever you choose, you can only hope that it available. And if it is not, the first thing you should do is find out why. Is there a site up already, and if so is there any contact information. If not, who owns the domain and are they willing to sell it?

The domain business has really taken off. People are selling domain names without web sites for hundreds of thousands of dollars (for the right name of course) But if you have the name, and then you develop a site that creates worth in todays www, then you can sell for a lot more.

What I have been looking at lately is the quality of the site, versus the quality of domain name that the site is attached to. For instance, if you owned cars.com and then you put up your own personal web page or blog, you would have to be completely crazy. Because if you owned a domain like that, short, sweet and simple, you should really look into developing the site into a well known icon on the web!

So, bottom line is, if you have a great domain name (like the one I have right now, www.gohd.tv) then it would be in your best interest to promote that domain and get as much out of it as you can, unless of course you just want to keep it, like the ones that I have that I do not really want to sell, unless I get the right price of course, (www.ideaoverflow.com, www.straightfocus.com)

Anyway, that is all I have for now, please let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great day!

Posting in forums for design ideas ......

Not sure if anyone still does this, but it has always been one of my favorite ways to get some feedback for ideas that I come up with. Sometimes the ideas are not so great, and other times they hit you like a brick, and you just "know", if you know what I mean?
For the most part, I have used multiple forums for feedback, because there is a wide variety of users, as well as very different backgrounds, and they all see things a little differently. It is nice when you can go to a forum, post your URL so people can see what you have done, and almost instantly you can get feedback on what your latest design looks like to others.
For me, I have had a positive experience with this, but then again I do come up with some very nice designs - lol.

Also, I have recently taken part in reviewing other people's web sites, in hope that I can show them what a really well designed site looks like. I have even given referrences as well, such as the all important web site (http://webpagesthatsuck.com) which basically tells you in plain english what NOT to do. Also, I have posted a link to a site that has helped me many times (http://htmlgoodies.com) so that when people need to know how to code something specific, at least they will have a place to start.

I feel as though forums that are made for the purpose of learning, specifically the ones that I have been posting on lately (list below) have been an incredible resource. They are always busy with people trying to learn, and help others learn. For all intesive purposes, its like school that you do not have to pay for, and all you need to do is spend some time and ask a few questions.

Here is a couple forums that I have enjoyed recently:
http://forums.digitalpoint.com - Great site, lots of users, I give it a thumbs up!
http://namepros.com - Also a great site with lots of users, this was the first site I joined! I give this site a big thumbs up, incredible community!

Username on all forums that I am a member of is UneekTT

Web Design 101 - Basic ideas ......

Well, to start off I would like to say that you should know a little about how to code before you even read on, because if you do not know how to code the back end, the front end will never look right. With that said, if you dont know how to, please visit one of the first sites that ever helped me: http://htmlgoodies.com

The first this I would like to talk about is basic design principles. Color, layout, font, background color versus text color. If you dont even have a clue on how to design, or you just dont have the eye for it and people look at your work and maybe snicker a little, then you need to see this web site: http://webpagesthatsuck.com

Ok - now that we are all done with that, lets talk openly about basic design. If you look at any newspaper or most magazines, they all follow some of the basic rules. There is a main section, with a big headline, and some other headlines as well. That is layout, and this differs from designer to designer. Then you have color. You probably dont want to have a black background with dark blue text, because nobody will be able to read it. So, I like to stick with the basics, whatever the background is, then the text is almost the opposite, pretty simple I think.

If you would like any other web sites that can help you with design principles, then you should get to know my friend "google", because they really know how to help you find things on the internet these days.

Have a great day!
